The birth of a child is an exciting and often overwhelming time for families. As parents we must navigate not only our own emotional changes (and physical changes for moms) but we are now making decisions for the new person in our family and must decode the world of choices and expectations of parenthood. All of these choices begin with your prenatal care and the birth of your baby!
In the Well-Rounded Childbirth classes, Kara Pitt-D’Andrea works with expecting families to understand the choices before them so they can make the best, educated decisions for their families and their babies. There is not one absolutely correct choice for all families on how to birth their baby or parent. Kara helps parents demystify the prenatal, birth and postpartum period so that each family can enter into the next stage of parenthood feeling more confident and educated in the final choices they make. The Well-Rounded classes offer parents the chance to explore their choices whether it is a medicated childbirth, natural labor and delivery, pursuing acupuncture and chiropractic care or nutritional consultation for post partum recovery.
Additionally, the class helps focus on the partner/mother relationship so they can best “coach” and support the mother during her labor, the birth and the postpartum period. Partners leave the classes with better understanding and competency in how to best assist the new mom along at each step of the process of childbirth and recovery.
The 8-week class covers a variety of topics including: the importance of sound nutrition and physical conditioning to enhance low-risk pregnancies; what happens physically and emotionally during the various stages of labor; how you can work with your body instead of against it to manage pain without drugs; birth plans; labor positions; relaxation and breathing; birth technology and procedures; how to deal with or avoid complications; postpartum and baby care; and how to cope if things don’t go the way you anticipated. Following the births of all the babies, each class gets together for a reunion to meet the babies and share birth stories.
~Kara Pitt-D’Andrea has been teaching the Bradley Method since January 2011 and is very excited to be transitioning to the Well-Rounded Childbirth Preparation classes, designed by Coral Slavin, PhD. Kara has a Masters of Oriental Medicine and focused her thesis on “Postpartum maternal recovery with Chinese Medicine”. The postpartum period is one of her favorite topics as Kara feels there is not enough dialog about what parents may encounter following the birth of their baby and resources available to them. Kara has been working with expecting parents since 2008 following the birth of her first child. She considers it a great honor with work with each family during this amazing time.
