Creative Circle is a monthly gathering to play with creativity! Each craft is inspired by the colors, shapes, textures, properties and symbolism of a chosen flower or plant.
The Lotus Flower
The lotus flower is one of elegance, peace, and harmony, revered for its beauty and growth. Emerging through mud, silt and the dirt of pond water, the lotus flower remains hardy and sturdy. Sitting on placid and glassy ponds, the delicate petals emerge and remind us that beauty exists in hidden and forgotten places. In this workshop, we will embrace the elements of water and sun, using water-based acrylic paints to create a stained glass inspired painting to place in a window of your choosing! Embrace the flow of slow, fluid media to create an image that elicits harmony and peace.

About the workshop facilitator:
Emily Downes is a Milwaukee-based artist whose creative practice involves multimedia modes of making, including video, animation, photography, music, painting, sewing and puppetry. Her creations are deeply rooted in the personal and inspired by her curiosity in symbols and synchronicities that arise in places, conversations, memories, and dreams. Fascinated by the art and universality of storytelling, she engages in the notion that broader connections can be made from sharing personal experiences. For Emily, making art comes full circle when engaged with community, as she is most passionate for sharing her talents with all ages while collaborating with local artists to build a strong and vibrant community.
